55 Words #1: Silent Night.

It's Exercises In Writing Friday! Today's Exercise is inspired by the "55 Words" series by Rosemary over at Bird and Moon. Obviously, it is 55 words long. Less obviously, it is difficult to fit a plot twist into 55 words.




I arrived at his door as it opened. Had he heard me? No. He treaded down the hall in just his towel. His calmness contrasted with my puffy eyes and sagging shoulders.

"I love you," I mumbled after him, wishing he'd hear my surrender.

His silhouette turned, paused.
"I slept like a rock last night."
